About The Position

The Department of Molecular Pathology at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist to join our team. This individual will be expected to evaluate tools and participate in validation of clinical pipelines in accordance with federal and state regulatory requirements. Familiarity with CLIA/CAP guidelines is preferred. The candidate will play a major role in translational research and pipeline development for our whole genome, transcriptome, and epigenome pathways. Supporting a state-of-the-art platform for both internal and external end-users, this position will be highly collaborative. We are seeking candidates with excellent communication skills and the flexibility to work outside of standard hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm, as needed. The successful candidate will have a dive-in and help attitude with an all-hands-on-deck approach to ensure success. This is a full-time, 40-hour/week position.

Requirements

  • PhD in Bioinformatics preferred or MS with at least 5-7 years of experience.
  • Excellent communication skills required.
  • Deep understanding of human genome reference databases such as Ensembl, NCBI databases, UCSC databases.
  • Basic understanding of machine learning and NLP is advantageous.
  • Understanding of job scheduling in high-performance compute environments is necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with CLIA/CAP guidelines is preferred.
  • Understanding of cloud infrastructure such as AWS and GCP is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate tools and participate in validation of clinical pipelines in accordance with federal and state regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the ‘honest broker' for security administration of the on-site HPC cluster.
  • Monitor error logs in the Dartmouth Cloud, requiring an understanding of cloud infrastructure such as AWS and GCP.
  • Utilize scalable Pythonic pipelines with workflow languages such as WDL, CWL, NextFlow, and Toil.
  • Collaborate on new and ongoing clinical research studies.
  • Participate in the teaching of residents, medical students, and other trainees.
  • Supervise genetic counseling students.
  • Assist with data entry and maintenance of the department database.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
