The Bioengineering Division has opportunities in a number of technology areas including: Cell and Tissue Engineering, Microbiology and Immunology, Microfluidics, and Synthetic Biology. Students selected for the internship will be expected to work full-time during professional business hours. Students will be expected to work on site in Draper’s Bioengineering Lab in collaboration with multiple senior technical staff members and communicate effectively both orally and in written reports or presentations. The technical responsibilities will depend on program specific needs but may include: cell culture and maintenance, synthetic or molecular biology, materials characterization, microfluidic device fabrication, assembly and testing, assay development and execution, design and computational modeling, and/or data analysis. This position will support qualified students in one or more Draper Bioengineering programs.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an accredited full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent work ethic with the ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Ability to adapt to ever-changing environments, risks, and vulnerabilities.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Student must be enrolled in a biological science, bioengineering or related degree program, such as genetics, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, protein engineering, data science, bioinformatics, or in mechanical or electrical engineering, chemistry, or physics with experience in life science-related applications.
  • Student should provide evidence of high aptitude and academic performance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Full time (40 hrs/week) is expected for the internship period, typically 10-12 weeks.

Nice To Haves

  • Research and laboratory experience is preferred; cell culture experience and/or microfluidics experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and enhancement engineering solutions for challenging problems.
  • Implement, test, perform analysis, and provide documentation support.
  • Generate and present test reports including plots, tables, evaluation criteria, and conclusions from data collected and analyzed throughout the test process.
  • Complete assignments designed to develop a practical knowledge of processes, procedures, equipment, facilities, and systems as well as their interrelationships within engineering disciplines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
