About The Position

Seagate Research Group is looking for a motivated biochemistry intern to develop and execute procedures for various projects related to nucleotide ligation and oligo purification. This role supports research on using nucleic acids for data storage applications, and the intern will work at Seagate's R&D site in Shakopee, MN.

Requirements

  • Executing written protocols in a laboratory setting, particularly in a biochemical laboratory.
  • Familiarity with concepts in nucleic acid chemistry.
  • Familiarity with methods for the chemical modification of surfaces.
  • Experience with standard molecular biology techniques such as PCR and gel electrophoresis.
  • Experience with lab-on-a-chip technology.
  • Pursuing an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline, and must be enrolled in Fall 2025 classes.

Responsibilities

  • Review primary literature to understand different chemical nucleic acid ligation techniques and their suitability for data storage or molecular compute applications.
  • Select appropriate chemical methods for Seagate's biochemistry/biosensing applications.
  • Perform benchtop experiments to validate developed concepts.
  • Develop experimental protocols for transferring bench experiments to Seagate's lab-on-a-chip.
