About The Position

Reporting to the Biomedical Supervisor, the Biomedical Equipment Technician I provides and document preventive and corrective maintenance on a variety of medical, mechanical, electrical, communication and electronic equipment.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree or Equivalent in Electronics or Biomedical Technology preferred
  • One-year experience in a hospital environment in the repair and maintenance of medical electronic instruments preferred but not required.
  • Valid California Drivers License
  • Frequent standing/walking
  • Lift/position up to 100 lbs.
  • Push/pull up to 100 lbs of force.
  • Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
  • Manual dexterity and mobility
  • Touch, auditory and visual perception and acuity
  • Adequate vocal pitch and volume

Responsibilities

  • Inspects Biomedical equipment for proper operation and working condition.
  • Maintains routine records including documenting type and extent of equipment malfunction and preventive maintenance and inspections performed.
  • Confirms equipment meets operating and safety standards adopted by DMC and all local, State and National codes and standards.
  • Performs preventive maintenance.
  • Calibrates, adjusts, lubricates devices and systems utilizing manufacturers recommendations and procedures.
  • Insures that an inventory of biomedical equipment, replacement parts, and standby equipment necessary to minimize disruptions of patient care is minimized.
  • Performs corrective maintenance.
  • Troubleshoots to identify defective components and assemblies.
  • Obtains and replaces parts required to restore equipment and systems.
  • Verifies equipment meets original manufacturer’s operating and performance standards.
  • Utilizes published information and experience to assist device users and maintainers in identifying limitations and capabilities of equipment.
  • Assists using departments in developing tasks required utilizing equipment safely and effectively.
  • Relates commonly occurring equipment related problems and correct emergency responses.
  • Monitors outside service vendors.
  • Observes and verifies all work including performance testing, preventive maintenance, and repair performed by manufacturers and service organizations meets DMC’s guidelines.
  • Ensure documentation is provided is timely, complete, and accurate.
  • Respond to phone and data entry orders.
  • Ensures all requests are responded to and completed in a timely manner to exceed expectations, suggests other improvements to system, and/or changes to improve service to the rest of the hospital.
  • Keeps abreast of current developments in biomedical equipment and systems as required.
  • Operates company vehicles in accordance with all applicable laws and company policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.
