About The Position

The Bindery/Finishing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily binding, and support operations for production of high-quality publications. This role ensures compliance with safety, quality, and production standards while coordinating schedules, managing staff, and optimizing workflows. The Bindery/Finishing Supervisor will lead continuous improvement initiatives in production processes, cycle times, material flow, and throughput while ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality products.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing/bindery operations, with prior supervisory/lead experience.
  • Strong knowledge of offset printing and bindery processes.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production setting operating under tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a manufacturing environment with varying noise and temperatures.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Printing Management, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.
  • Experience in short-run magazine production workflows.
  • Knowledge of quality control tools.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily binding and support operations to meet customer deadlines.
  • Coordinate production schedules to optimize equipment utilization.
  • Monitor production metrics including throughput, quality, and efficiency.
  • Ensure proper job setup and changeovers between different job specifications.
  • Manage work-in-progress inventory and material flow throughout the process.
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
  • Lead, develop, and supervise a team of Bindery Employees and support staff.
  • Conduct team meetings to communicate priorities, safety updates, and performance expectations.
  • Provide training and coaching on equipment operation and quality standards.
  • Manage staffing levels and work assignments to meet production demands.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and employee development.
  • Address employee relations issues and enforce company policies when needed.
  • Ensure all printed materials meet customer specifications and quality standards.
  • Monitor quality control procedures throughout the binding process.
  • Investigate and resolve quality issues with corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Quality Control teams on inspection protocols and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate production and quality records.
  • Maintain a safe workplace in compliance with OSHA regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct safety meetings and training; enforce proper use of PPE.
  • Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and implement preventive measures.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and corporate standards.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance schedules for bindery equipment.
  • Coordinate repairs and upgrades with maintenance staff.
  • Monitor equipment performance and ensure proper calibration.
