The position involves setting up, adjusting, and operating a variety of auxiliary binding machines containing several cutting heads and control surfaces or other attachments. This includes operating automatic bindery machines that can be electromechanically combined with other equipment to produce a complete bindery and finishing unit that processes printed sheets into final products such as books, catalogs, manuals, directories, and magazines. Responsibilities also include inspecting equipment for safety issues, making adjustments to coordinate multiple work stations, directing crew through all aspects of production, and monitoring quality, output, and productivity. The job requires the ability to exert varying amounts of force to move objects and includes training and supporting new and existing team members as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret written work orders or job specifications containing bindery requirements.
  • Must be able to calculate distances, clearances, and fits in combining machines.
  • Skill in using standard and specialized tools to adjust and maintain bindery machines.
  • General knowledge of complex bindery machines to perform standard and specialized folds of printed materials.
  • Thorough knowledge of setup, operating requirements, procedures, capabilities and limitations of bindery machines.
  • Knowledge of quality and machining requirements of various types of paper stock.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, adjust and operate a variety of auxiliary binding machines.
  • Inspect equipment for safety issues.
  • Operate automatic adhesive binding machines (perfect binders).
  • Make needed adjustments to coordinate multiple work stations on a single machine.
  • Direct crew through all aspects of production.
  • Monitor quality, output and productivity.
  • Train and support new and existing team members as assigned.
