About The Position

Bindery Managers are responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the bindery department. This role ensures seamless execution of post-press production, including cutting, folding, stitching, and finishing processes, while maintaining the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and safety.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
  • 3 – 5+ years of experience as a binder operator
  • Full comprehension in reading work instructions and business memos
  • Effective communications skills with all levels within the organization
  • Ability to use basic math skills, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, measurements and critical thinking, to solve practical problems
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Must have the ability to work effectively in stressful situations and meet stringent deadlines
  • Be organized and able to plan, prioritize and follow through on projects assigned with minimal supervision
  • Has basic computer skills
  • Must be self-motivated, reliable, quality, and safety oriented
  • Requires use of proper body mechanics with pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, squatting, kneeling and bending
  • Pushing/pulling and lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Requires fine motor hand and arm movement, manual dexterity and coordination
  • Requires near visual acuity
  • Requires working around and operating departmental equipment
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department in the facility
  • Requires the ability to function in a professional manner under stressful circumstances

Responsibilities

  • Oversee production across all shifts by prioritizing, scheduling, and delegating work assignments to ensure high-quality output is delivered on time, within budget, and to customer specifications.
  • Partner with other departments to align and maintain production schedules, ensuring seamless workflow and communication across the organization.
  • Maximize the utilization of equipment and team capabilities by strategically scheduling jobs, reducing setup times, and aligning tasks with employee skill sets.
  • Ensure bindery machinery and related equipment are maintained in proper operating conditions to minimize downtime, control costs, and meet quality standards.
  • Actively participate in cross-functional teams to drive ongoing improvements in methods, processes, and productivity, with a focus on quality enhancement and cost reduction.
  • Inspect products and processes regularly to ensure compliance with company standards and customer requirements.
  • Monitor and manage labor, materials, and supplies to remain within budgetary constraints while maintaining performance standards.
  • Provide onboarding, training, and ongoing development for employees to ensure they meet safety, quality, and productivity expectations, in line with company principles.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and problem solver for the bindery department and other teams on technical or operational issues.
  • Foster a positive work environment by promoting open communication, building strong employee relations, and maintaining morale.
  • Organize and maintain proper levels of supplies, oils, fluids, and tools, securing cost-effective purchasing where possible.
  • Keep leadership informed of production status, quality concerns, cost variances, or issues impacting safety, efficiency, or morale.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety regulations, work rules, and housekeeping standards.
  • Complete all required paperwork, reports, and documentation accurately and on time.
  • Lead or support assigned projects and contribute to company-wide initiatives.
  • All other duties as assigned
