The Billing Manager is responsible for the supervision of the Client Account Department and functional processing of billing, collections and encounter submission for behavioral healthcare and other related patient services. The position will efficiently and effectively provide management, oversight and assurance that billing, reporting and collections meet all local, state, federal and funder requirements. In addition, the manager will provide monthly reports, analyze outcomes, identify trends, and ensure timely and proactive communication. The Billing Manager provides oversight, training and supervision to all assigned staff.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for supervision of assigned team ensuring timely and accurate billing to County, State and Federal Insurance and other third-party payers.
  • Timely and accurate follow up is completed in the assigned book of business, including efficient resolution of claim rejections with clearinghouse, denials from payers and appropriate appeals for reconsideration.
  • Aging Reports reflect agency goals and guidelines.
  • Reports monthly on status of write-off, sliding fee, collection percentages and other key performance indicators for assigned book of business.
  • Creates and maintains billing workflow and training documentation for continual process improvement.
  • Provide quality reviews and audits of staff work and processes, looking for training opportunities and process improvements.
  • Works closely with IT and Compliance to develop monitoring and reporting to meet these goals.
  • Serves as 'lead' resource to other staff and departments to ensure billing guidelines are being followed.
  • Interfaces with clinical and compliance departments to discuss and resolve billing issues and all Quality Assurance / Quality Improvement activities.
  • Lead by example showing integrity, accountability and confidentiality of all client data.
  • Attends internal and external meetings and or trainings and disseminates information as necessary.
  • Supervises billing office personnel, which includes work allocation, training, and being available for staff needs; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Maintains positive and collaborative working relationships with funders and staff.
  • Provides financial analysis, consultation and other decision support as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field or Five years of experience in medical billing or healthcare administrative setting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration or Revenue Cycle certification.
  • Experience with WA State Mental Health Billing.
