About The Position

The Biller/Coder Manager provides operational and technical leadership for professional billing and coding functions across the organization. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely coding and billing practices that support appropriate reimbursement, regulatory compliance, and revenue integrity.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Licensure/ Certification: Professional coding certification (e.g., CPC, CCS, RHIA, RHIT) strongly preferred. Financial experience preferred.
  • Work Experience: 7-10 years of progressive experience in physician practice billing and coding, including demonstrated leadership or supervisory responsibility.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and third-party payer billing and coding regulations required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides day-to-day leadership and supervision of billing and coding staff, including hiring, performance management, coaching, and workload management.
  • Leads coding compliance activities, including monitoring, auditing, and corrective action planning in collaboration with Compliance and Revenue Cycle leadership.
  • Identifies coding trends, denial patterns, and documentation opportunities and works with operational and physician leaders to implement improvements.
  • Develops and delivers education programs for coding staff, providers, and operational teams to support compliant and accurate documentation and coding practices.
  • Oversees onboarding and ongoing competency development for coding staff, including continuing education and certification maintenance.
  • Partners with Analytics and Revenue Cycle teams to monitor performance metrics and report on coding quality, productivity, and compliance outcomes.
  • Monitors regulatory and payer policy changes and evaluates operational impact; implements process or education changes as needed.
  • Serves as a resource to leadership and providers regarding coding interpretation, reimbursement risk, and documentation standards.
  • Participates in committees, workgroups, or organizational initiatives related to revenue cycle performance and compliance.
