About The Position

Requirements

  • Two years of professional analytical experience and healthcare, finance, billing, and public health experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, finance, or a relevant field
  • Post-secondary education may substitute for the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis
  • Must secure a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver’s license by the time of hire
  • Employee must have reliable transportation, may have to travel to another location if coverage is needed
  • Within one month of hire, all employees will be required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and point of contact for billing issues, including developing a relationship with vendors related to billing issues
  • Analyze and provide guidance, training, and performance feedback to ensure staff effectiveness and development
  • Develop and maintain billing policies, procedures, and documentation standards. (Including: eCW billing configuration role, fee schedules, CPT codes, modifiers, templates, claim scrubbing, automate rule engines, etc.)
  • Conduct and provide analysis along with recommendations to department leadership
  • Develop and maintain reports, metrics, and participate in special projects as needed to support this activity for the department and its leadership
  • Audit billing records for accuracy and identify trends or areas needing process improvement
  • Analyze, manage, and monitor claim denials, rejections, and adjustments; ensure timely follow-up and resolution
  • Collaborate with compliance, finance, and program managers to address billing discrepancies and implement corrective actions. The program’s budget must be kept in mind, considering language line, taxi scheduling, labs, etc.
  • Manage patient and payer billing inquiries, ensuring excellent customer service and accurate communication. This will require a review of sensitive EOBs that are typically sent for billed services
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of billing codes (CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10) and reimbursement procedures
  • Ensure billing practices align with federal and state regulations, HIPAA requirements, and organizational policies
  • Stay informed about regulatory changes affecting billing and reimbursement processes
