About The Position

Julie Valentine Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Spanish speaking Bilingual Victim Advocate to provide support, crisis intervention, and advocacy for survivors of sexual violence. The ideal candidate will demonstrate trauma-informed care, cultural competence, compassion, and advocacy for clients and their loved ones during times of crisis and provide support and empowerment to survivors . The bilingual Victim Advocate is responsible for serving victims of sexual assault and their families and participating in community education and prevention efforts. Requirements

  • Must be bilingual in English/Spanish
  • have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • experience and skill in providing crisis intervention and case management to victims of interpersonal violence
  • knowledge of criminal justice system and victim services
  • Bachelor’s degree in human services related field

Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis intervention services by answering the hotline and responding to assault victims in the ER.
  • Serve as primary staff for first follow-up contact with Spanish speaking survivors within 24 hours following a hospital accompaniment or hotline call.
  • Participate in the rotating staff on call schedule for the hotline and ER accompaniment during times the center is closed.
  • Provide support, on-going case management and personal advocacy for clients through follow-up phone calls, in person meetings, trauma intervention services and other assistance as appropriate.
  • Assist victims and families with referrals to community resources as appropriate.
  • Assist in scheduling Spanish speaking clients for services.
  • Maintain client information and contacts in accordance with agency policy and funding requirements.
  • The incumbent will have primary responsibility for ensuring client information is properly recorded and maintained following hotline calls and ER accompaniment.
  • Assist clients with completing victim compensation forms.
  • Provide interpretation for Spanish speaking clients during any agency services to include but not limited to forensic interviews, family advocate sessions, and intakes.
  • Work collaboratively with Crisis Coordinator and other agency staff to provide highest quality services to clients.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating education programs and community awareness events.
  • Promote agency services and a positive image of the agency to the community.
  • Act as a liaison to our Hispanic community partners.
  • Participate as a member of the JVC Team, participate in weekly Crisis Program staffing and attend agency staff meetings and supervision meetings.
  • Participate as a member of the JVC Team and attend fundraisers and other activities as assigned.
  • Complete Crisis Program’s 26-hour advocate training and participate in quarterly advocate training.
  • Participate in the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) meeting on a quarterly basis and promote collaboration across member agencies.
  • Update center’s community referral and resource guide.
  • Maintain Victim Service Provider (VSP) credentials by completing annual training requirements.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through activities such as professional affiliations, conferences, workshops, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and/ or requested.
