About The Position

The Bilingual Universal Banker specializes in enhancing the branch customer experience through sales, service, and digital engagement for both Consumer and Business Banking customers. This role supports the daily operations of the branch as a Teller, addressing customer service and sales needs as required. The banker holds scheduled customer appointments and walk-in appointments to identify customer needs, referring complex issues to the appropriate team member. The position is crucial for providing exceptional service and resolving customer problems in a timely manner, while also being a key driver of sales and customer experience within the branch.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum of 1 year's proven retail sales, call center, customer service, or telesales experience.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse range of customers.
  • Ability to handle difficult customer conversations effectively.
  • Well-organized with proven time management skills.
  • Ability to work under critical time constraints in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with internet user-level technology.

Responsibilities

  • Educate customers on features and benefits of Consumer and Business Banking solutions and make recommendations based on identified needs.
  • Engage customers in various ways to encourage the use of digital capabilities.
  • Explain criteria used to decision loan applications.
  • Complete servicing-related responsibilities for Consumer and Business Banking customer relationships.
  • Follow the Bank's sales process and provide customer-focused advice.
  • Proactively reach out to customers to retain and expand banking relationships.
  • Adhere to customer service standards and deliver solutions in critical moments.
  • Manage lobby activities, greet customers, and inquire about their banking needs.
  • Introduce appropriate banking partners for product solutions.
  • Assist with AML, BSA, and KYC processes.
  • Identify and escalate suspected fraud cases.
  • Resolve and log customer complaints accurately.
  • Review and help resolve customer overdrafts.
  • Complete customer transactions and related operational activities.
  • Adhere to compliance and operational risk controls.
  • Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain internal control standards and implement audit points.
  • Meet registration requirements under the Federal SAFE Act.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.
