About The Position

The Bilingual Teacher Assistant Program (BTAP) aims to increase the number of high need teachers in the Fort Worth ISD by encouraging bilingual individuals to pursue and acquire teaching credentials in elementary Bilingual education. BTAP participants will work in Dual Language Immersion classrooms, providing students with opportunities for maximum development and growth through suitable learning activities. Upon graduation, BTAP students will be eligible to teach as Bilingual educators in high needs settings within Fort Worth ISD.

Requirements

  • Current College/University Student: Enrolled in an EC-6 (early childhood through grade six) Bilingual Education Program.
  • Must maintain a College semester GPA of 3.0 to be in good standing with BTAP.
  • 6 months FWISD-approved experience working with students or parents.
  • Incoming College Student: Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required.
  • Must have satisfied one of the following: 48 or more college hours from accredited college or university, or pass the ParaEducator Training with a score of 75 or better.
  • Obtain an Educational Aide Certificate.
  • Bilingual (oral and written) proficiency required.
  • High School GPA of 3.5.
  • Must be enrolled in six (6) or more college hours at the time of placement.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, manages, and implements instructional activities under the direction and guidance of the teacher.
  • Translates and interprets for students and parents/guardians in English and Spanish.
  • Assists in lesson plan development.
  • Assists with record keeping.
  • Monitors children and reports progress to teacher.
  • Attends all BTAP trainings.
  • Attends in-service, team, and faculty meetings when requested by administrator.
  • Conducts individualized and small group instruction as directed by the teacher.
  • Maintains strict confidence pertaining to students or school personnel regarding privileged information.
  • Accepts change and adapts to assigned duties.
  • Maintains professional standards in conduct, dress, language and punctuality.
  • Approves weekly hours worked in Kronos and submits time sheets to BTAP Coordinator for verification.
  • Must maintain a 3.0 semester GPA to be in good standing with BTAP.
  • Assists students with assignments.
  • Performs other instructional duties as assigned.
