About The Position

The Bilingual Special Education Teacher - Resource Inclusion position at Malvern Elementary is designed to provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences that help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The teacher will enable students to develop competencies and skills necessary to function successfully in society.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned.
  • Demonstrate competency in the core academic subject area assigned.
  • Valid ESL Supplemental certificate required for all elementary content teachers, all Special Education teachers, and secondary ELAR teachers.
  • Meets No Child Left Behind Highly Qualified Requirements.
  • Willingness to obtain multiple certifications.
  • Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • One year student teaching or approved internship.
  • Spanish speaking preferred.
  • Attend training and gain certification in Non-violent Crisis Intervention training (CPI) and maintain that certification annually.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with students, parents, and other staff to develop IEP through the ARD Committee process for each assigned student.
  • Implement an instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula as needed and assist special education students in regular classes with assignments.
  • Participate in ARD Committee meetings on a regular basis.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by IEP, TEA guidelines, Board policy, and administration regulation.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and capabilities of each assigned student.
  • Work with other staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to District requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal teaching.
  • Provide or supervise personal care, medical care, and feeding of students as stated in IEP.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
