About The Position

The Bilingual Spanish School Counselor plays a crucial role within the educational leadership team at the William F Finkl School, located on the West Side of Chicago. This position is designed for a professional who is not only a licensed educator but also possesses a deep understanding of the diverse challenges faced by students today. The counselor will provide comprehensive support across academic, personal/social, and career domains, ensuring that students are equipped to become productive and well-adjusted adults. The role emphasizes a proactive approach to leadership, engaging all stakeholders in the delivery of programs and services that foster student success. The primary function of the school counselor includes the creation, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive school counseling program that aligns with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) REACH Framework for School Counselors. This framework is based on the American School Counselor Association National Model for School Counseling Programs, ensuring that services are delivered equitably to all students. The counselor will conduct annual needs assessments and data reviews to identify critical areas of student need, allowing for targeted program goals that align with the school's mission and vision. In addition to program development, the school counselor will implement a core curriculum designed to reach all students through classroom guidance, career fairs, and team-building activities. Individual student planning is also a key responsibility, where the counselor collaborates with students, staff, and families to create academic plans that lead to successful diploma attainment and postsecondary options. The counselor will provide responsive services to address barriers to academic achievement, facilitate small group sessions, and participate in crisis support as needed. Indirect support services will be provided through referrals to community resources and advocacy for student development. The counselor will also engage in system support activities, contributing to the effective operation of the school and ensuring alignment with the approved counseling program. Regular participation in professional development is essential to stay current with best practices in the field, ensuring that the counselor remains an effective resource for students and the school community.
