About The Position

At Tutor Me Education, we are revolutionizing the way students learn, and we're seeking passionate teachers and tutors with special education experience to provide 1:1 in-home tutoring in Los Angeles, CA! About the Role: As an Tutor at Tutor Me Education, you’ll provide personalized, one-on-one tutoring to students with special needs in their homes. You will be responsible for helping students with daily activities, offering moral support, and delivering tailored instruction based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). We are currently hiring for multiple positions across all cities in Los Angeles, CA Details: In-Person Tutoring in Los Angeles, CA Schedule: 25 hours per month, 5 sessions a week for 1.15 hours Pay range is between $25 and $35

Requirements

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (required)
  • Experience working with students with autism and learning disabilities
  • Background supporting middle school students in reading, writing, math, and science
  • Strong knowledge of reading fluency, comprehension strategies, and vocabulary development
  • Experience teaching writing skills, including organization, sentence structure, grammar, and paragraph development
  • Solid understanding of math concepts, including multi-digit multiplication, long division, algebra basics, and word problems
  • Familiarity with Physical Science and Technology subject support (e.g., force and motion, energy, basic systems and processes)
  • Experience supporting executive functioning skills, including organization, task completion, and study habits
  • Skilled in using visual supports, graphic organizers, and step-by-step instruction
  • Patient, calm, and supportive in managing student anxiety and frustration
  • Comfortable conducting an academic assessment to guide instruction

Nice To Haves

  • Credentialed teacher or SPED experience highly preferred (not required)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct an initial tutor assessment to determine current academic levels and learning needs
  • Provide homework support across multiple subjects, including Math, English, Physical Science, and Technology
  • Deliver targeted math instruction, including multi-digit multiplication, long division, algebra basics (variables, equations, inequalities), and word problem strategies
  • Support reading fluency and comprehension using strategies such as chunking, guided reading, and vocabulary preview
  • Reinforce comprehension through discussion, graphic organizers, and guided questioning
  • Provide structured writing support, including sentence development, paragraph organization, grammar, and transitions
  • Assist with spelling and offer alternative writing supports (e.g., typing, guided writing tools)
  • Break down complex assignments into manageable steps and provide clear, structured guidance
  • Support executive functioning skills, including organization, time management, and task completion
  • Implement strategies to manage anxiety and overwhelm, including scheduled breaks, positive reinforcement, and predictable routines
  • Incorporate student interests (e.g., antiques, classic cars, vintage electronics, coins) to increase engagement and motivation
  • Provide consistent support to improve grades, assignment completion, and overall academic confidence
  • Communicate progress with caregivers and adjust strategies as needed
