About The Position
The Bilingual Residential Advocate (English/Spanish) at REACH Beyond Domestic Violence Inc. plays a crucial role in supporting survivors of domestic violence and their children within an 8-family emergency shelter. This position combines case management, emotional support, and advocacy services tailored to the unique needs of adult and child survivors. The Advocate operates within a trauma-informed, strength-based, relational, and empowering framework, ensuring that all interactions are respectful and supportive of the survivors' experiences. The role involves handling crises and conflicts as they arise, maintaining a safe and supportive environment for residents. The Advocate is responsible for a variety of direct service and advocacy tasks, including serving as an advocate for survivors to address their needs related to housing, benefits, medical care, childcare, legal issues, education, employment, mental health, and substance use. This includes accompanying clients to essential appointments, answering hotline calls, conducting intake assessments, and facilitating support groups in both English and Spanish. The Advocate must maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions and progress, develop individualized service plans, and engage in shelter practices that promote overall well-being. In addition to direct advocacy, the Advocate will assist with programming in the shelter, support children’s needs, and maintain communication with community resources. The position requires a commitment to social justice, an understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners. The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm, with the possibility of remote work after a 90-day period. Occasional evening, weekend, and holiday coverage may be necessary, especially during inclement weather.
