About The Position

Provides individual and small group interpretation language support for ELL qualified students and non-English speaking families in their native language. The Bilingual Interpreter serves as a language bridge between the school and students’ family. He/she provides interpretation services for non-English speaking families and English speaking school staff.

Requirements

  • Must complete 6-hour Interpreter Training class (offered through the school district or Puget Sound Education Service District) or college level interpretation program.
  • Understanding of school terms and vocabulary.
  • Speak, read and write fluently in indicated language and English.
  • Ability to explain cultural concepts to avoid miscommunication and to act as a cultural broker.
  • Excellent listening and retention abilities.
  • Be punctual during scheduled work times.
  • Remain consistent, calm and fair under pressure.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and public.
  • Ability to effectively work with diverse populations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Background check and fingerprinting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual or small group verbal language support (interpretation) for students, families and staff.
  • Assists students, families and teachers to communicate academic achievement.
  • Works with district staff to communicate student progress and needs.
  • Performs a wide variety of interpretation (verbal) services
  • Provides interpretation at student-parent-teacher conferences, IEP conferences, and community meetings (to include written communication).
  • Serves as a language bridge between the school and the student's family or the community.
  • Coordinates appointment scheduling between school and parents in parent’s native language.
