As the Food Pantry Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting and implementing CFBNJ’s direct service programs at the Garfield Unity Pantry in Garfield, NJ. Support of this program involves daily on-site operation of the pantry as well as relevant administrative duties. You will work closely with food insecure neighbors, directly oversee volunteers, work closely with multiple CFBNJ departments, and liaise with organizational partners as part of the Unity Health Partnership campus. Hours: 40 hours/week, 5 days per week that will include one Saturday per month/. Evenings or weekend days may also be required for additional events (such as food drives). Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills (English plus Spanish) are required.
  • Previous experience working in retail, specifically a food store or food pantry, with a an understanding of food justice concepts.
  • Driver’s license and willingness to drive a box truck.
  • Ability to bend, stand, and lift at least 50 lbs. frequently- while maintaining pantry inventory.
  • Knowledge of Chromebook/Gmail platforms and Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Demonstrated experience in customer service, solutions- driven with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in underserved communities and with people from a variety of backgrounds: diverse client populations, community organizations, government officials, vendors, and staff at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a keyholder with regular responsibility for opening and closing the facility- welcome and support neighbors including orientation, training and oversight.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for neighbors, volunteers, vendors and organizational partners at least one day a week and/or whenever the Assistant Director is offsite or unavailable, making all facility related decisions during operations, deliveries, emergencies, and other on-site situations.
  • Manage the front desk operations including checking in neighbors, administering intake and scheduling appointments.
  • Have the ability to oversee operations and prioritize tasks while managing the pantry floor. This includes unloading deliveries, sorting and weighing gleanings, and organizing inventory.
  • Implement neighbor intake, check out and online ordering processes while providing stellar customer service.
  • Drive the box truck for pickups and deliveries, as needed.
  • Represent CFBNJ at occasional external meetings and events.
  • Collaborate with other departments to offer service insights to partners and improve wellness outcomes for our neighbors across our service area.
