North Marin Community Services is entering an exciting new chapter as we expand our food pantry into a Community Market model. The Food Pantry Coordinator will play a key role in supporting this growth and deepening our impact across the community. The Food Pantry Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the Food Pantry, cultivating relationships with food pantry volunteers and participants, organizing activities with San Francisco Marin Food Bank, tracking food pantry attendance and coordinating weekly Tuesday food pantry, and working closely with Lead Food Pantry Volunteers. Other duties assigned, including donor relations and development support.

Requirements

  • Fluent in English and Spanish, both written and spoken
  • Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts over 50 pounds to move food or load vehicles
  • Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching to organize and distribute food
  • Ability to work in varying indoor/outdoor weather conditions
  • Three years of experience working with volunteers, donors and/or community members.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
  • Able to exercise good judgment, conflict resolution and de-escalation skills, and tact in dealing with volunteers and participants.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint); comfortable with databases.
  • Experience coordinating projects and identifying areas to increase impact.
  • Able to quickly prioritize work
  • Able to work well with people, establish cooperative working relationships with staff and volunteers at all levels within and outside the organization.
  • Able to take initiative and be self-motivated.
  • Driver’s license in good standing with insurability at non-risk rates and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check
  • CA Food Handler card (willing to train after hire).
  • First Aid/CPR certification (willing to train after hire)
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless granted a medical or religious exemption.
  • Pre-employment health exam including proof of vaccinations and TB test clearance.
  • Criminal record clearance or exemption from California Department of Social Services. All convictions other than minor traffic violations require an exemption, including convictions that have been expunged.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead coordinator for the NMCS Food Pantry at 1907 Novato Blvd.
  • Coordinates the functions involved with a community food pantry. This includes: Tuesday Food Pantry operations, two shifts each with 20-25 volunteers, align with SF Marin Food Bank (SFMFB) guidelines, and NMCS Food Pantry Program Manual.
  • Manages food pantry volunteer relations and scheduling with support from HR (including posting food pantry shifts in VolunteerMatters and tracking volunteer attendance).
  • Responds to questions and complaints from food pantry participants, redirects the information as appropriate
  • Maintains a strong relationship with key food pantry volunteers to ensure the flow of the food pantry
  • Maintains relationships with community partners for managing extra produce
  • Conducts food pantry volunteer orientation for new volunteers
  • Communicates important updates to volunteers via email and oversees a smooth, safe experience for participants navigating the food pantry. Communicate frequently with volunteers to solicit feedback, ensure they are satisfied, and express appreciation
  • Maintains internal spreadsheets and acts as the primary NMCS Food Pantry representative for delivery and invoice changes.
  • Works with Operations and Administration staff to support food pantry distribution, enrollments, and food pantry data tracking.
  • Completes weekly data entry to track pantry attendance
  • Maintains and tracks emergency food pantry donations throughout the year
  • Ensures that best practices are used for food handling and storage for cleanliness and safety.
  • Serves as liaison to Case Management program
  • Partners with Director of Operations for construction planning and feasibility
  • Works closely with SFMFB and other community markets for collaboration and partnership
  • In partnership with the Development Dept, coordinates and leads monthly donor tours of Food Pantry and Novato Blvd Center.
  • Represents NMCS and Food Pantry throughout the community through outreach events
  • Coordinates with community partners for donation pickups around the Bay Area (either with an NMCS vehicle or mileage reimbursed for personal vehicle use)
  • Logs and tracks food donations that come to NMCS through community partners
  • Other duties as assigned.
