About The Position

The Bilingual/ESL Teacher Assistant supports the classroom teacher in providing instructional assistance to students in grades K-6. This role involves preparing instructional materials, maintaining classroom order, and supervising students during various activities. The assistant plays a crucial role in fostering a positive learning environment and ensuring that students' needs are met.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or USA equivalency; Associate Degree or 48 College credit hours or pass an academic assessment.
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate.
  • Six months of knowledge and skills acquired through work experience or successful completion of a specific training program for teacher assistants is preferred.
  • Demonstrated general knowledge of child growth/development and behavior characteristics.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
  • Demonstrated willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children in an educational setting.
  • Bilingual skills in English and another language.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Assist with administration of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Assist in maintaining student records, attendance, and files.
  • Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.
