About The Position

The Bilingual Healthcare Representative at UnitedHealth Group plays a crucial role in assisting patients and their families in navigating healthcare benefits. This position involves interviewing patients in a hospital setting, advocating for their needs, and ensuring they receive maximum benefit coverage. The representative will work closely with hospital personnel and government agencies to expedite benefit approvals and maintain compliance with legal standards. This full-time role requires flexibility in working hours and is based at the Medical University of SC in Charleston, SC.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED OR equivalent work experience.
  • Must be 18 years of age OR older.
  • 1+ year of healthcare customer service OR human services patient interaction experience.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time to local healthcare facilities.
  • Ability to work onsite at Medical University of SC (MUSC), 169 Ashley Ave, Charleston, SC, 29425.
  • Ability to work any shift between the hours of 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM from Tuesday - Saturday.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years of face-to-face patient interaction within a healthcare/hospital OR human services environment.
  • Previous experience in communicating with patients & staff with various educational & socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of federal and state programs that will benefit coverage for clients.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients in a hospital setting and work effectively with hospital personnel to assist patients with obtaining maximum benefit coverage.
  • Complete applications for state and federal programs.
  • Review medical records and take all necessary actions to expedite benefit approval.
  • Adhere to company and legal standards regarding Protected Health Information (PHI), Personal Identifiable Information (PII), and Personnel Transaction Identifier (PTI).
  • Maintain ongoing communication with government agencies regarding the status of claims.
  • Provide updates and assistance to hospital personnel and other Optum staff as needed.
  • Maintain documentation of status of claims and client contract on Optum and/or hospital computer systems.
  • Determine when to use a Federal, State, or Local program application based upon medical definition of disability as it relates to body systems and to functions of daily living, and information contained in medical records.
