Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant credential (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, or equivalent)
  • Current CPR certification
  • Must be fluent in both English and Spanish to effectively communicate with patients and support clinical operations.
  • 0–6 months of clinical experience (new grads encouraged to apply!)
  • Strong communication, customer service, and computer skills (MS Office)
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Valid Texas driver’s license (or ability to obtain) and reliable transportation
  • Must be able to travel/rotate between Texas City and Galveston clinic locations
  • Must comply with GCHD immunization policy and ICS training requirements
  • Must pass a criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Previous clinical or externship experience in a healthcare setting
  • Equivalent education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for visits and accurately document in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Take and record vital signs, including pain scale for all ages
  • Collect patient histories, medication lists, allergies, and other key health information
  • Assist providers during exams and procedures
  • Perform screenings such as hearing, vision, EKGs, peak flow, and more
  • Conduct approved point-of-care testing (POCT) and collect lab specimens
  • Clean, disinfect, and restock exam rooms throughout the day
  • Support patient flow to reduce wait times and improve clinic efficiency
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care team members
  • Follow infection control policies and properly dispose of biohazard waste
  • Respond to emergency situations and adhere to clinic protocols
  • Assist with translation for Spanish-speaking patients when applicable
  • Learn and support medication administration under supervision
  • Complete required training and perform other duties as assigned
