About The Position

The Bilingual Assistant in French at Middlebury College Summer School of French plays a crucial role in supporting the non-academic operations of the Language School during the summer 2025 session. This temporary position involves providing language and residential support to students, engaging in cultural immersion activities, and collaborating with the School's administration to enhance the overall student experience. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred; advanced degree a plus.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in French and English, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with people of all ages and levels.
  • Willingness to take initiative and assume responsibility while working collaboratively.
  • Specialized training/experience in media, communications, and/or technology highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary in-language point of contact for students and faculty.
  • Actively engage with students, providing encouragement and support outside of class.
  • Design and implement team-building exercises for classes or the program.
  • Support students' commitment to the Language Pledge and the rigorous learning environment.
  • Represent the School administration in the dorms and social spaces, especially on evenings and weekends.
  • Reside in dorms and provide guidance and non-academic support to students.
  • Facilitate the School's cultural program and liaise with campus offices.
  • Design, plan, and implement complex school-wide cultural events.
  • Engage in conversation practice outside of class.
  • Provide general IT support for faculty, guests, and students.
  • Communicate with students and faculty on various platforms.
  • Administer the School office and serve as a French language point of contact.
