A Bike Patroller plays a critical role in the safe operation of SilverStar Mountain’s summer bike park. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring advanced downhill mountain biking ability, strong emergency response skills, and independent decision-making in dynamic and high-risk environments. Bike Patrollers are responsible for emergency medical response, mountain safety, hazard mitigation, lift evacuation, and monitoring bike traffic to ensure safe conduct on the hill. Patrollers frequently work independently in remote terrain and must demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, and composure under pressure. This role requires riding advanced and expert-level downhill terrain in all weather conditions, often while carrying medical equipment and responding urgently to incidents. Successful candidates are safety-focused, physically fit, technically skilled riders who are committed to maintaining a safe and positive environment for staff and guests. Requirements

  • Advanced to expert-level downhill mountain biking ability
  • Confident riding double black diamond and pro-line terrain, including steep technical features, jumps, drops, and high-speed trails
  • Ability to ride aggressively and safely in all weather and trail conditions
  • Ability to transport medical equipment while riding
  • Ability to respond rapidly to emergencies across the entire bike park
  • Minimum 19 years of age
  • Valid AFA or EMALB (BC); EMR, PCP, or ACP license accepted
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract
  • High level of physical fitness and endurance
  • Able to work long shifts in variable weather conditions
  • Strong risk awareness and hazard assessment ability
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Calm and decisive in high-stress emergency situations
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently
  • Team-oriented with a professional and safety-focused attitude

Nice To Haves

  • Rope rescue certification an asset
  • Emergency response experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency medical response to guests and staff
  • Conduct risk assessments, hazard mitigation, and accident prevention initiatives
  • Perform daily mountain openings and closings according to established procedures
  • Conduct lift evacuations
  • Safely operate ETV/ATV vehicles
  • Monitor and manage bike traffic to promote safe riding conduct
  • Maintain radio communication with Mountain Dispatch (dispatching duties may be required)
  • Maintain signage during spring and fall operations
  • Collaborate with Trail Crew, Events, Lift Operations, and other departments
  • Attend and actively participate in training sessions
