General Summary The Business Intelligence Developer translates requests into technical specifications, analyzes data, maintains existing reporting structure, and creates new reporting content for varied applications. They meet with other Epic analysts, end users, and external vendors to understand their reporting needs. Excelling in this position requires both technical skills for design and operational knowledge to understand report consumers’ workflow.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study (i.e. healthcare, business, computer science, information systems, statistics) or 2+ years of related experience required.
  • Certification in Epic Cogito required to be completed within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience with design and development of Business Intelligence, EHR reporting, or other healthcare experience is preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products, SQL writing, and relational database concepts is preferred.
  • Other related Epic certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, creates, and maintains reporting needs of Phelps Health end users and external vendors through investigation, analysis, and evaluation to create desired content in Epic and other systems using Cogito Palette tools, SQL, Excel, or other data visualization software.
  • Evaluates requests for completeness, and, if needed, works with end users to finalize the request.
  • Designs and documents the general functional requirements and detailed technical specifications for requests, created content, and other tasks.
  • Provides documentation and demonstrations to transfer knowledge and improve operational support.
  • Maintains ongoing quality control of delivered reports.
  • Validates system build and report designs and performs audit and report findings of security and data controls.
  • Participates in meetings with stakeholders from all operational departments and hierarchical levels.
  • Documents main points, issues, and key decisions and provides input as necessary.
  • Recommends changes to established guidelines, standards, methodologies, and conventions as appropriate.
  • Assists end users with quality assurance testing and documents results through standard procedures and processes.
  • Performs testing as needed and ensures test scenarios are adequately documented.
  • Creates new and manages existing stored procedures with SQL Server and Visual Studio.
  • Implements new Clarity and Caboodle tables or extensions as needs arise.
  • Displays strong written, verbal, soft, and follow-up skills with the ability to communicate complex technical issues in terms clearly understood by technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills by effectively working with other team members to identify and resolve problems with process workflow and assist end users with understanding the reporting content.
  • Possesses good organizational skills to prioritize multiple activities and objectives in a rapidly changing environment and delivers quality service to ensure timely project completion and responses to problems or requests.
  • Presents conflicts in priorities or roadblocks to the Lead Business Intelligence Developer for resolution.
