About The Position

The purpose for this position is to facilitate the management of flight operations with regard to scheduling, compliance with company policies and procedures, regulatory compliance, and compliance with all flight training requirements as established by the Chief Pilot. The Pilot Supervisor is required to help ensure that the company safety program is being complied with and is to be a direct participant in the investigation of flight incidents and mishaps when required. Additionally, the Pilot Supervisor will coordinate flight operations with the Base Managers and Maintenance Supervisor. The classification of this position is broad and assigned specific functional areas; duties and assignments may overlap depending on the operational needs of the department.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • FAA Commercial-Instrument.
  • CFI, CFII rating in rotorcraft.
  • 2,500 Hours PIC, 1000 hours turbine.
  • Must meet the requirements as listed in FAR Part 119 to act as Chief Pilot under Part 135.
  • FAA Commercial-Instrument and CFI rating in rotorcraft.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to clearly and concisely articulate conclusions to senior management and teams.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills.
  • Flexibility to respond to a range of different work situations, personalities.
  • Must be a team player with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Previous experience maintaining and updating required manuals as needed.
  • Intermediate with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Valid Commercial Pilot License
  • Current Class II flight Physical completed with current medical certificate obtained.
  • Clearance on TSA/FBI background check.
  • Position participates in FAA Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.
  • Must be able to work effectively in the extreme heat and cold safely.
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds regularly.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop and able to reach over shoulders.
  • This position is subject to drug and/or alcohol testing per the DOT/FAA requirements (pre-employment, random, reasonable cause/suspicion, post-accident).
  • Subject to applicable laws and Blue Hawaiian Helicopters policies, regular attendance is an essential function of the position. All employees must follow Blue Hawaiian Helicopters employment practices and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for monitoring flight operations and will make every effort to ensure that the assigned pilots are flying in accordance with all applicable company policies and procedures, state and federal regulations, noise abatement procedures, and the aircraft flight manual.
  • Assign a qualified mentor pilot to any new pilot and review the progress of the new pilot with the mentor regularly.
  • Ensure that assigned pilots are complying with the requirements company safety program. If there is an incident or mishap, he or she will ensure that proper reporting takes place within the guidelines of the safety program.
  • Assist the pilots and local management with any decisions regarding weather, weight and balance, regulatory issues, etc.
  • Responsible for conducting annual performance evaluations for pilots assigned to his or her base in accordance with company procedures.
  • Generating the monthly pilot schedule for the Pilot Supervisor’s assigned bases. This is to include finding replacements to fulfill sick leaves, vacations, emergencies, flight-testing and 5th day needs. Work closely with the Chief Pilot on locales if needed.
  • Conduct pilot reviews for the company files.
  • Review tour tapes, grading and commenting on the various parts. Helping to conduct audits and surveys of the flights and operations of the base assigned. Maintain a pilot reading file for the passing along of vital information.
  • Oversee weather decisions. Provide communication to reservations, in a timely manner and encourage a consensus building and sharing of knowledge between the pilots and other bases.
  • Coordinate with the Chief Pilot in all aspects of Blue Hawaiian Helicopters, Inc.’s business to ensure the information is passed on and carried out in a professional manner. FAR compliance, SFAR 71 and noise abatement policies must be followed.
  • Assist the Guest Relations team with ramp issues and safety precautions. Regulate weight and balance, weather, regulatory, company manual, etc. Communicate with reservations and dispatch when making these decisions.
  • Ensure that Pilots attend the daily and monthly safety meetings and communicate safety information to Pilots that are out on sick leave or on vacation.
  • Responsible for ensuring that revisions to the aircraft flight manuals for company aircraft are posted and the manuals are kept current. Distribute flight manual revisions. He or she will make the required notification to the FAA as appropriate.
  • Insure that incident reports are completed and forwarded to Director of Safety/Base Safety Officer when appropriate.
  • Obtain and distribute current flight publications for the aircraft as applicable. Ensure that all company aircraft have the required publications onboard the aircraft and that they are up to date. This includes maps, supplements, and check lists.
  • Collaborate with Base Managers and Maintenance Supervisors/Managers with respect to coordinating flight and maintenance requirements. Work with maintenance personnel to ensure that their concerns are addressed to the pilots.
  • Ensure that the video reviews for assigned pilots occur on schedule and that the results are forwarded to the Chief Pilot.
  • Responsible for attending all required meetings and telephone conferences as established by management.
  • Communicate weekly with the Director of Operations covering the events and problems of the past 7 days.

  • Directly supervises employees in the Base location Flight Operations department. Carries out Supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, selecting, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. For Exempt Managers: Managers that carry out these responsibilities for two or more employees will have significant input in hiring and termination decisions.
