About The Position

The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services seeks a Clinician II who serves as a Recreation Coordinator for the West Neck ICF Unit in the Developmental Services Division. The ideal candidate will have at least two years’ experience developing, implementing and evaluating recreational and leisure programs that promote physical, emotional and social well-being ID/DD individuals.

Requirements

  • At least two years’ experience developing, implementing and evaluating recreational and leisure programs for ID/DD individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a monthly recreation calendar that offers a balance of individual and group activities reflecting residents’ interests, abilities, and needs.
  • Coordinate in-house and community-based recreational opportunities that promote inclusion, independence, and wellness; adapt activities as necessary to accommodate varying levels of physical, cognitive, and sensory functioning.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (IDT) to integrate recreation goals into each resident’s ISP. Maintain accurate records of participation, progress toward ISP goals, and activity outcomes.
  • Ensure recreation programming meets CMS ICF/IID regulations, facility policy, and safety standards.
  • Prepare reports as requested by the Supervisor II or QDDP; maintain inventory of supplies, request materials within budget, and ensure proper use and storage.
  • Encourage resident choice and self-determination in all aspects of recreational participation; provide hands-on assistance during activities to support engagement and safety.
  • Foster positive relationships with residents, family members, and community partners; promote inclusion and social interaction between residents and staff.
  • Work collaboratively with direct support staff to implement daily recreation and leisure routines.
  • Provide guidance to staff on engagement techniques and activity facilitation.
  • Participate in IDT meetings and contribute to annual and quarterly reviews.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe manner and in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Implement infection control measures and risk mitigation strategies during group and community activities.
