The Bowling Green Police Department is seeking retired police officers for the BGPD-R program. This program allows retired officers to be reemployed under specific guidelines set forth by Kentucky law. The position is for a term not to exceed one year, and the retired officer may continue to receive retirement and insurance benefits without contributing to a second retirement account. The role requires a flexible work schedule to accommodate peak hour calls and special events, with assignments based on the officer's experience and knowledge.

  • Work a flexible schedule to accommodate peak hour calls for service and special events.
  • Be assigned to divisions that best serve the Police Department, including patrol, criminal investigations, logistics, or training.
  • Pass annual Essential Skills Testing and attend all in-service and mandatory training requirements.
  • Must have participated in the Kentucky Law Enforcement Foundation Program Fund (KLEFPF) or retired as a commissioned officer under Kentucky Revised Statute Chapter 16.
  • Must have retired from KERS, CERS, or SPRS with at least 20 years of service credit.
  • Must have retired with no administrative charges pending.
  • Must meet separation of employment requirements as per Kentucky Revised Statute 61.637.
  • Must not have a prearranged agreement to return to employment prior to retirement.
  • Must observe a one-month break in service after retirement.
  • Must submit Form 6751 within 12 months of retirement.
  • Must submit Form 6754 if retired less than 12 months from the contract date.
  • Retired in good standing with the last evaluation rated as overall fully competent or better.
  • Salary of $65,500 per year.
  • Eligible for fifteen (15) days or 120 hours of paid leave time per year.
  • Eligible for dental and vision plans.
  • Eligible for EAP and Peer Support Services.
  • Qualify for two-hour court overtime benefit.
