About The Position

The Lead Microgrid & BESS Applications Engineer will provide comprehensive engineering support for distributed energy and microgrid projects, managing various assets such as solar, energy storage, controls, and reciprocating engines. This role involves collaborating with manufacturers, optimizing designs, and ensuring the technical correctness and cost-effectiveness of microgrid integrations. The position is remote/hybrid and reports to the Senior Manager in the Renewable Energy Business unit.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a focus on power and a minimum of four years of experience in power/generation/renewable energy projects.
  • Deep understanding of industry standards and regulations (e.g., NEC, UL, ISO).
  • Ability to develop system-level schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation for BESS installations.
  • Experience in collaborating with project managers and technicians for successful BESS system implementation.
  • Conduct factory acceptance tests and on-site commissioning of BESS systems.
  • Thorough understanding of distributed energy technologies including solar, battery, and reciprocating engines/turbines.
  • Experience with Microgrid control, Demand Management, Behind-The-Meter storage, and related energy modeling.
  • Project management experience with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of various DER power sources and their interface with utilities.
  • Knowledge of systems controls for BESS and DERs.

Responsibilities

  • Work with switchgear manufacturers and other OEMs to develop scalable designs and costing.
  • Provide input to solar, battery, and generator designs to optimize performance and sustainability.
  • Lead the full life-cycle of BESS and DER project design from conceptual to full system design.
  • Interface with equipment and technology vendors.
  • Use AutoCAD for permit-ready and IFC deliverables, including conduit/cabling schedules and stub-up details.
  • Utilize technical and communication skills to interface with business and customers.
  • Collaborate with Business Development teams to evaluate and develop technical solutions.
  • Work with BD, execution, and commercial teams to ensure integration of Microgrid is technically correct and cost-effective.
  • Investigate interconnection modifications applicable to each site.
  • Manage engineering consultants in preparing detailed engineering and construction drawings.
