About The Position

The Automotive Service Writer Advisor plays a crucial role in the automotive service industry by acting as a liaison between customers and the service department. This position involves ascertaining automotive problems and services by listening to customers' descriptions of symptoms, clarifying the issues, conducting inspections, taking test drives, checking vehicle maintenance records, and examining service schedules. The advisor is responsible for verifying warranty and service contract coverage, developing estimates for repairs, and preparing repair orders (RO) that detail the symptoms, problems, and required services. Maintaining customer rapport is essential, as the advisor explains estimates, answers questions, and arranges for towing and temporary transportation when necessary. Additionally, the advisor is expected to maintain accurate automotive records and update their job knowledge through educational opportunities and manufacturer publications.

Responsibilities

  • Ascertain automotive problems and services by listening to customer descriptions, conducting inspections, and taking test drives.

  • Develop estimates by costing materials, supplies, and labor; calculate customer's payment including deductibles.
  • Prepare repair orders (RO) by describing symptoms, problems, and required repairs; obtain approval signatures and enter RO into service database.
  • Maintain customer rapport by explaining estimates, obtaining approvals, and answering questions; arrange towing and temporary transportation.
  • Maintain automotive records by recording problems and corrective actions planned.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading manufacturers' publications.
  • Enhance organization reputation by accepting ownership for new requests and exploring opportunities to add value.
