The classification will execute various clean-up, trails, roadway right-of-way and median maintenance projects within the county. Responsible for cleaning illegal dumping sites within the county. Prepares, and maintains records of work performed, prioritizes daily work activities and special clean-ups, and all maintenance jobs as directed. Safety inspections, operate and maintain vehicles and equipment to perform responsibilities and duties listed below in accordance with safety standards and applicable laws, policies, and procedures. Work schedule other than the normal work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday as scheduled and/or required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, or GED plus two (2) years of experience in one of the following fields and/or a related field: landscaping and/or landscaping equipment; performing pre-use safety inspections and daily equipment maintenance; use, care and operation of various types of large equipment such as transport of various equipment utilizing a truck and trailer, and spray equipment varying in size; towing and securing trailers.
  • Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
  • Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
  • Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position.
  • Employee must have a valid New Mexico Class B, NM Commercial Driver's License and maintain while employed in this position.
  • Must possess Traffic Control Supervisor certification within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • Employee must have the ability to operate small power tools, hand tools and landscaping maintenance equipment.
  • Employee must have knowledge of irrigation systems maintenance, testing and repair.
  • Employee must have the ability to understand and fully execute both oral and written instructions in English and to perform work assignments with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of low voltage landscaping irrigation systems repair preferred.
  • Knowledge of operation of front-end loader, skid steer loader and associated implements preferred.
  • Must possess Traffic Control Supervisor certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform labor intensive job duties in the care for established landscaping; perform a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: mowing, trimming, chipping, watering, digging, drip system repair, sprinkler repair, fence repair, maintenance of existing landscapes, planting, pruning, weeding, trash removal, snow removal and general upkeep of landscaped medians, trails within roadway landscaping and illegal dumping within Bernalillo County.
  • Maintenance and cleanup of trails, roadway right-of-way, medians, and illegal dump sites within the county and as assigned.
  • Respond to 311 complaints.
  • Issue work orders and prioritize daily work activities.
  • While performing job duties, must operate on-and-off road vehicles such as but not limited to: Skidsteer, Loader and attachments.
  • Daily, perform safety inspections on assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Report and/or document found safety issues in accordance with departmental requirements which includes but is not limited to inspecting and testing of tire conditions and air pressure, brakes, mechanical and engine fluids levels, water, brake lights, headlights and other operational systems and equipment.
  • Operate snow removal equipment.
  • Operate vehicles under adverse weather conditions, and work schedule other than the normal work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday as scheduled and/or required for snow removal.
  • Instruct service workers in the proper use and operation of personal protective equipment (PPE), equipment, hand tools, weed eaters, power tools, and spray equipment.
  • During a County declared emergency, this position will be required to respond.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned.
