About The Position

The City of Spokane is seeking a Benefits Specialist to manage and enhance the City’s benefits plans and wellness programs. This role involves providing guidance to employees and their dependents regarding their benefits, ensuring accurate communication, and implementing educational wellness initiatives. The specialist will also coordinate health-related events and manage the City’s communicable disease response as required by health authorities.

Requirements

• Completion of two years of college coursework in administration, office management, accounting, human resources, insurance, or closely related fields.
• Two years of work experience in the administration of health insurance.
• Valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.

Responsibilities

• Provide information and assistance to employees and dependents regarding their benefits package.
• Counsel employees and dependents on various aspects of benefit programs.
• Review benefits documentation for accuracy and clarity.
• Respond to eligibility inquiries from staff and dependents with clear communication.
• Create, implement, and maintain citywide educational wellness programs.
• Collaborate with benefits staff to evaluate health insurance claim patterns and identify trends.
• Coordinate periodic benefits fairs and special health-related events.
• Manage the City's communicable disease outbreak activities as required by L&I and CDC.
• Process enrollment forms and input information into the internal benefits system.
• Participate in health and life insurance plan audits as needed.
• Coordinate worksite wellness resources and campaigns.
• Track participation in wellness programs to ensure they meet employee needs.
• Maintain program records and manage corporate gym membership agreements.
