The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is seeking a highly empathetic and experienced HR Professional to manage all employee benefits and leave programs. This important individual contributor role requires the "heart of a teacher". Someone who excels at translating complex federal and state regulations into clear, compassionate guidance for our entire workforce. This position will focus on specialized expertise and enhance our employee experience. You will act as the agency's primary subject matter expert and administrator for benefits and leave programs, using independent judgment and strict discretion in handling confidential matters (FMLA, ADA, etc.).

  • Coordinate, administer, and manage all employee benefits, including health and retirement, serving as the benefits system administrator and the agency's KPERS designated agent.
  • Manage all leaves of absence (FMLA, ADA, Parental, Military, etc.), initiating necessary forms and working with the Payroll Specialist to ensure accurate usage and compliance.
  • Deliver training (including New Employee Orientation) and provide one-on-one counseling on complex issues, ensuring employees are well-informed and supported.
  • Research and maintain compliance with all state and federal regulations; perform quality assurance checks and maintain accurate, confidential records.
  • Oversee the annual open enrollment process, providing comprehensive information and answering questions regarding all plan options.
  • Serve as back-up for payroll duties.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years managing a program.
  • Proven capacity for empathy, sensitive communication, and responsive service when advising employees through stressful situations and life events.
  • Consulting with individuals and training groups on complex policies or programs.
  • Demonstrated ability for the strict maintenance of confidentiality concerning sensitive employee data (FMLA, ADA, medical records).
  • Must work on-site.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Managing and administering an employee benefits or HR program.
  • SHRM, HRCI or other relevant certification.
  • Proficiency in HRIS such as SHARP or MAP. Benefits and payroll administration.
