About The Position

The Benefits & Leave Specialist is responsible for administering the organization’s employee benefits programs and managing leave of absence processes, including FMLA and ADA accommodations. This role ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, serves as a resource for employees and managers, and supports wellness and engagement initiatives that contribute to a positive workplace culture.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 1–5 years of HR experience, with emphasis in benefits administration.
  • HR Certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing and/or nonprofit settings a plus.

  • Strong knowledge of benefits administration, leave laws, and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.

  • Excellent customer service mindset with ability to build trust and rapport with employees.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; advanced Excel skills required.
  • Experience with HRIS systems; Paycom preferred.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Administer benefits programs including but not limited to enrollments, changes, COBRA, and life/disability claims.
  • Coordinates the annual open enrollment process, including HRIS setup, employee communication, and legal compliance with distribution of plan documents.
  • Conducts monthly benefit reconciliations to ensure accuracy of HRIS data, deductions, and vendor invoices; resolves discrepancies with carriers and employees.
  • Serves as primary liaison with benefit carriers, TPAs, and employees to resolve issues and ensure accurate plan administration.
  • Manage leave administration from eligibility through return-to-work, ensuring compliance with FMLA, ADA, and company policy.
  • Serves as a point of contact for employees and managers during leave, ensuring timely communication and smooth transitions.
  • Spearheads wellness initiatives and employee engagement events such as health fairs, screenings, and workplace celebrations.
  • Maintains HRIS data, HR documentation, and HR shared drives to ensure organization and accuracy.
