About The Position

The Benefits Director is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and administration of the organization's employee benefits programs. This role ensures benefits offerings are competitive, cost-effective, and compliant with all applicable laws and regulations. The Benefits Director collaborates with leadership, vendors, and HR teams to enhance employee engagement, streamline benefits processes, and support the overall business strategy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in benefits administration, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of benefits laws and regulations, including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, and FMLA.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and negotiating contracts.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in HRIS and benefits administration systems.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement comprehensive benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, wellness initiatives, leave policies, and voluntary benefits.
  • Ensure benefits offerings remain competitive by analyzing industry trends and benchmarking against market standards.
  • Develop and execute long-term benefits strategies aligned with business objectives and workforce needs.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws (e.g., ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA).
  • Oversee regulatory reporting, including 5500 filings and nondiscrimination testing.
  • Partner with legal, finance, and HR teams to mitigate risks and address compliance concerns.
  • Manage relationships with benefits providers, brokers, and third-party administrators to optimize cost and service quality.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts and service agreements to ensure cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Oversee the benefits budget, ensuring financial sustainability and forecasting future costs.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies to educate employees about benefits programs, enrollment processes, and policy changes.
  • Oversee benefits enrollment processes, including annual open enrollment and life event changes.
  • Address employee concerns and resolve benefits-related issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Oversee leave of absence programs, including FMLA, short-term disability, long-term disability, and paid time off policies.
  • Ensure leave administration processes are compliant and effectively support employee needs.
  • Utilize HRIS and benefits platforms to analyze benefits utilization, cost trends, and employee feedback.
  • Provide leadership with data-driven insights to optimize program effectiveness and employee satisfaction.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations on benefits trends and financial impacts.
  • Lead and develop the benefits team, ensuring high levels of service and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with HR, finance, and executive leadership to integrate benefits into broader HR and business strategies.
  • Foster a culture of employee well-being and engagement through benefits programs.
