About The Position

The Behaviorist is responsible for developing and implementing behavioral support plans and skill teaching strategies for CRI consumers, based on referrals and under the supervision of a Consulting Psychologist. Key duties include monitoring and updating programs, coordinating behavioral interventions for new placements, and providing client-specific and general behavioral in-service training to staff in Residential Programs and CRI Group Homes. The role also involves generating documentation for consumer files and maintaining professional knowledge through training and literature review.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Psychology and at least one year’s experience working with adults and children with developmental disabilities with demonstrated proficiency in the principals of applied behavior analysis or a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of study and at least three years experience working with adults and children with developmental disabilities with demonstrated proficiency in the principals of applied behavior analysis.
  • Available, as needed, in cases of behavioral emergencies.
  • Good teaching skills.
  • Good written and oral communication.
  • Good organizational and planning skills.
  • Commitment to the philosophy of community-based services, integration and the values of client centered services.
  • A safe driving record and a valid Connecticut driver’s license.
  • Suitable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement behavioral support plans and skill teaching strategies for CRI consumers based on referrals from the Director or Assistant Director of Program Services when needed and under the supervision of the Consulting Psychologist.
  • Monitor and update Programs on a regular basis, or as requested by the Consulting Psychologist.
  • In the case of new placements, coordinate behavioral interventions with the referral source.
  • Provide client specific training to Residential Programs, and CRI Group Home staff as needed.
  • Provide general behavioral in-service training to newly hired staff. Develop behavioral in-service training curriculum and provide continued in-service training to staff according to the needs of specific sites and programs.
  • Generates documentation of consumer’s specific behavioral training for consumer files.
  • Maintains and increases professional knowledge and skills by attending training and staff development activities and keeping current by reading applicable professional literature.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Consulting Psychologist.
