About The Position

The Behavioral Tech is a paraprofessional caregiver who assists in the care and treatment of patients who have sustained an acquired brain injury. The Behavioral Tech works/functions under the direction and guidance of the Registered Nurse. The position is located in the Neurobehavioral Unit at the Hospital for Special Care, with scheduled weekly hours of 24 on the second shift. This job is eligible for a sign-on bonus.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in healthcare related field or a minimum of 2 years clinical experience in an inpatient/residential rehabilitation, psychiatric or developmental disability setting.
  • Valid current Driver’s License.
  • Ability to read, write and understand instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • Six months experience working in a rehabilitation/treatment or human services setting.
  • Experience working with groups or teams.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises patients at all times maintaining appropriate level of supervision as specified.
  • Performs direct patient care functions under the direction of the RN in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Supervising and assisting patients in daily scheduled activities, and skills trainings or practice.
  • Following standard operating procedures and therapeutic techniques for the Program.
  • Follows patients' Individual Treatment Plan.
  • Maintains familiarity with each patient's assessments/interventions.
  • Utilizes appropriate therapeutic modalities and interventions to meet patient outcomes and department goals.
  • Performs efficiently in emergency situations following established protocols.
  • Actively promotes environmental/patient safety using effective preventative measures.
  • Reports and documents behavioral observations, responses to care plan interventions and daily treatments as per hospital standards.
  • Organizes and assists with structured group activities.
  • Consistently models to patient/families appropriate and therapeutic interpersonal staff/patient interactions.
  • Handles crisis situations in a safe, effective manner, utilizing the least restrictive, safe patient care alternative.
  • Demonstrates ability to anticipate, address and de-escalate patient distress situations prior to patients’ loss of control as designated in their treatment plans.
  • Performs other related duties as required, assigned or directed by charge nurse.
