About The Position

The Behavioral Threat Assessment Analyst is a critical position within the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's multidisciplinary behavioral threat assessment team (BTAT). This team is responsible for developing policies and procedures aimed at preventing violence on campus, including the assessment and intervention with individuals whose behavior may pose a threat to the safety of the University community. The BTAT comprises members from various departments, including University Police, Employee and Management Relations, Student Affairs, Equal Opportunity and Compliance, Counseling and Psychological Services, and the Office of University Counsel. As a Behavioral Threat Assessment Analyst, you will be trained in violence prevention and tasked with collecting and analyzing open-source behavioral background information related to individuals of concern. This involves conducting research on publicly available digital footprints, such as social media, and utilizing law enforcement databases to compile comprehensive background checks. The information gathered will be shared with the threat assessment team to assist in evaluating risk levels and determining the potential threat posed by individuals. In addition to data collection and analysis, the Analyst will serve as a subject matter expert on crime and violence prevention topics, providing critical information during high-profile events and incidents. The role also includes supporting other Campus Safety and Risk Management groups, such as Emergency Management and Planning and the University Police Department. Key responsibilities include consulting on active threat assessments, developing mitigation recommendations, coordinating with other BTAT members, tracking escalations and de-escalations, and documenting all case activities. The Analyst will also create professional products that identify risk and protective factors associated with targeted violence, employing analytical techniques to assess warning behaviors from diverse data sources. This position reports to the Associate Director of Threat Assessment and Management and requires a Bachelor's degree along with relevant experience in the field.
