About The Position

The Behavioral Support Staff is responsible for the treatment, care, and supervision of intellectually disabled adults that exhibit challenging behaviors and/or complex medical issues in a Community-Based Group Home setting. This role supports clinical services through active engagement and utilizes the principles of positive reinforcement, life skills, and communication skills development to decrease maladaptive behaviors while increasing positive replacement behaviors. The staff implements, monitors, and reports upon therapeutic strategies and programming, ensuring a safe and therapeutic atmosphere throughout the residence and community. Responsibilities include documenting incidents, daily client progress notes, and maintaining a positive working relationship with colleagues while adhering to all policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Proof of a High School diploma or GED required for Behavior Support Staff 1, with 3-5 years of experience in residential and/or behavioral health care.
  • Associates Degree required for Behavior Support Staff 2, with at least 1 year of experience.
  • Bachelor's degree required for Behavior Support Staff 3, with 1 year of experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services field required for Behavior Support Staff 4, with 1 year of experience.
  • Must be 18 years of age and able to communicate emergency information in English.
  • Must possess a current and valid Driver's License and maintain CPR certification.
  • Must complete a medication administration course within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Must complete in-house training on complex behavior intervention strategies.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and perform physical activities as required.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in and contributes to the therapeutic milieu through the implementation, coordination, and support of behaviorally-based interventions.
  • Ensures the clients safety and well-being by actively supervising clients according to their needs and treatment goals.
  • Provides assistance, instructions, and guidance toward client independence in personal care and social interactions.
  • Facilitates community engagement opportunities for residents, including leisure, vocational, and educational activities.
  • Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, contributing information regarding client progress and treatment goals.
  • Fulfills mandatory training requirements and ensures licenses and certifications are valid and current.
  • Assists in the development of individual treatment goals and implements planned treatment procedures.
  • Implements crisis stabilization procedures and prepares incident reports as directed.
  • Responsible for housekeeping tasks and maintaining a neat and orderly residential program.
  • Transports clients to and from various appointments and activities while ensuring proper supervision.
  • Administers emergency first aid treatment and implements fire safety procedures.
  • Maintains satisfactory attendance and punctuality.
  • Collects data on observable behaviors to measure progress.
  • Helps de-escalate disruptive behaviors and maintains a safe environment.
  • Participates in departmental staff meetings and individual supervision.
  • Assists clinicians in managing and delivering client programs and instructional activities.
  • Monitors client behaviors and collects data for skills acquisition and incident reports.
  • Writes reports and notes as assigned and inputs information via carelogic.
  • Assists in maintaining program consistency and integrity.
  • Assists in evacuating clients during emergencies and drills.
  • Relates to clients and family members with respect for individual variances.
  • Communicates effectively with family members and agency personnel.
  • Establishes relations with local law enforcement and community services.
  • Maintains confidentiality of clients and their families.
