About The Position

The Children's Home of Poughkeepsie has been caring for children throughout the Hudson Valley for over 175 years! We strive to empower children and families to achieve optimal health and well being. We are currently seeking Behavioral Support Crisis Intervention Specialist to work in our LTFC Program. Position Summary: The Behavioral Support Crisis Intervention Specialist is responsible for the daily routine operation of the Nuevas Alas/New Wings LTFC program, including supervision of activities, assignment and reassignment of staff, and changes in programming. The Behavioral Support Crisis Intervention Specialist will facilitate contacts with DHS (Department of Homeland Security) and assure that all policies and procedures are followed according to all governing bodies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of experience working with children and families
  • Valid NYS Driver License in good condition as determined by the Agency
  • CPR and First Aid Certificates
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Trainer

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience delegating and maneuvering day to day tasks.
  • Education beyond a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Child Welfare experience beyond one year.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfills training responsibilities according to Children’s Home, NYS Justice Center, OCFS and ORR regulations.
  • Is familiar with and adheres to all agency policies and procedures as outlined in the Child Care Manual, Employee Handbook and Risk Management Manual.
  • Acts as the Administrator on duty and has oversight responsibility for program and agency operations during non-office hours.
  • Assigns and reassigns staff to duties; authorizes and assigns overtime when necessary.
  • Oversees daily routine operation of the LTFC Program.
  • Ensures the safety of the residents.
  • Provides crisis intervention in alignment with Therapeutic Crisis Intervention policies and procedures.
  • Oversees children's activities; reports, reviews and completes notes in the communication log.
  • Is sensitive to and supportive of the children’s cultural and ethnic heritage and values.
  • Oversees direct care staff on duty.
  • Follows through on all daily planned activities.
  • Ensures all written reports and logs are completed by staff before going off duty.
  • Completes duty check lists for the appropriate shift assignment.
  • Assists in in-service training and orientation of staff as assigned.
  • Makes appropriate contacts with regard to hospitalizations, psychiatric evaluations, AWOLs and other occurrences.
  • The Behavioral Support Specialist will conduct a minimum of (3) unannounced rounds during his/her shift to ensure the overall safety of the youth.
  • The Behavioral Support Specialist is responsible for assigning vehicles for use and inspecting upon return.
