About The Position

The Behavioral & Mental Health Tech position at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta involves providing individual treatment plans, therapeutic interventions, and patient safety monitoring services under the supervision of a licensed professional. This role is essential in maintaining a safe and supportive environment for patients with behavioral and mental health needs, ensuring compliance with health policies, and fostering therapeutic relationships.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a healthcare setting OR Academic healthcare related courses.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Completion of Marcus Crisis Prevention Program within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience working in a mental health or behavioral health setting.
  • Psychology or healthcare related academic course or certifications.
  • Mental health technician certification.

Responsibilities

  • Implements plan of care interventions as established by Behavioral Health Care Team.
  • Maintain a safe environment for the patient through situational awareness, crisis prevention strategies and plan of care-initiated interventions.
  • Complies and promotes compliance with all behavioral health related policies and guidelines to protect patient, self, and others from harm.
  • May perform/document components of safety monitoring and general care needs (behavior support interventions, eating, hydration, and/or elimination).
  • Accurately documents data collected & behaviors observed on assigned patient in EMR, according to established time frames.
  • Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with behavioral and mental health patients.
  • Monitors for behavior changes and employs crisis prevention and de-escalation strategies.
  • May accompany patient to medical procedures to maintain therapeutic interventions and behavioral support.
  • Participates in transfer of care; communicates any special considerations, care priorities, and support needs as appropriate.
  • Maintains patients' rights, including the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information.
  • Performs other responsibilities as required.
