About The Position

MaineGeneral is looking for a compassionate and motivated Behavioral Health Unit Assistant/CNA to join our dedicated Behavioral Health team at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta. In this role, you will support individuals experiencing mental health challenges by providing patient-centered care under the supervision of an RN. Your work will help patients stabilize, develop coping skills, and improve their overall quality of life in alignment with our mission and values.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Enrolled in a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course within one year of hire is required.
Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) is required within 18 months of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) are required within 6 months of hire.
A minimum of one year of directly related work experience is strongly preferred.
Exceptional customer service and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Proficiency in Microsoft applications is desired.

Responsibilities

Assists with ensuring the safety of the patients while helping to meet their emotional, physical, recreational, and mental health needs.
Assists with keeping the therapeutic environment safe, clean, orderly, and appropriately stocked.
Communicates in a therapeutic manner, uses de-escalation techniques, and reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
Performs basic patient care activities, as delegated by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
