About The Position

As part of NMHSI’s patient-centered health model (PCMH), the Behavioral Health Therapist provides traditional counseling and integrated behavioral health services to patients of all ages. Requirements

  • Must have limited or full licensure, in the field of practice, in the state of Michigan, including credentials such as Master of Social Work, Licensed Counselor, or Marriage and Family Therapist.
  • Experience working in Mental Health and Healthcare is preferred
  • Capable of working within complex systems that bridge behavioral and physical health in patient treatment.
  • Willingness to learn and apply generalist approach to service delivery
  • Ability to work effectively within teams and independently complete assigned tasks.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and experience working within electronic record systems.
  • Critical thinking, effective communication, and multi-tasking skills are highly beneficial for this role.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in individual, group, and family therapy settings
  • Experience providing mental health services in a community-based setting preferred
  • Knowledge of behavioral health integration within a primary care environment is a plus
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and crisis intervention skills
  • Ability to provide assessment along with development of treatment plans and assessing client progress
  • Experience in SUD treatment preferred
  • Experience in Evidence Based Practice
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred, but not required
  • Additional desirable qualities include cultural competence, crisis intervention skills, and a commitment to ongoing professional development. These qualifications ensure that therapists are well-equipped to provide effective mental health support and foster positive client outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct behavioral health screenings and assessments for adults, adolescents, and children
  • Provide diagnosis, treatment planning, and psychotherapy using a variety of modalities
  • Offer short-term behavioral interventions, crisis management, and care coordination
  • Collaborate with medical providers to address behavioral health needs in primary care
  • Provide school-based behavioral health support in coordination with school administrators, teachers, and the school-based health center team
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences, quality improvement efforts, and population health projects
  • Maintain updated community resource connections and make appropriate referrals
  • Complete timely documentation, assessments, and billing requirements within the EHR
  • Provide consultation, training, and support to primary care and dental staff on behavioral health topics
