About The Position

Responsible for the coordination of patient transfers, assessing behavioral health patients in the emergency rooms and medical floors, collaborating with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure appropriate placement of patients according to clinical standards and guidelines. Serves as a clinical resource for patients seeking admission to the BHS behavioral health units, with responsibility for clinical decisions and appropriate documentation. Maintains working knowledge of EMTALA and other regulations governing patient transfers. Provides additional Intake and Triage services as appropriate, such as physician and other facilities referrals. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduate of accredited school. Registered Nurse (RN) requires Bachelor’s degree. Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist require Master’s Degree, Doctorate in Psychology (PhD)
  • At least 3 years working with mentally ill patients
  • Possession of current Texas State License as Registered Nurse or as a Qualified Mental Health Professional
  • Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA); however, must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention obtained within 60 days of hire or transfer into position
