About The Position

The Behavioral Health Technician at HCA Florida North Florida Hospital plays a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care in a supportive and therapeutic environment. This position involves performing basic patient care services under the supervision of a registered nurse, assisting with crisis intervention, and ensuring patient safety. The technician will engage with patients, support their daily activities, and contribute to a collaborative team atmosphere focused on patient well-being.

Requirements

  • Certified Behavioral Health Technician preferred, or PCT training within 6 months of hire.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification through the American Heart Association required.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training required for Behavioral Health.
  • Ability to lift a maximum of 100 lbs with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic patient care services related to behavioral health under the supervision of the nurse (RN).
  • Assist the patient care team in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
  • Conduct crisis intervention and support activities of daily living for patients.
  • Obtain vital signs, height and weight, and monitor intake and output.
  • Establish effective rapport with patients and provide protection to ensure their safety.
  • Escort patients and, if necessary, restrain them to maintain safety.
  • Perform bedside glucose testing and collect samples for lab testing as needed.
  • Assist the RN in collecting data from patients during admission and discharge preparations.
  • Provide a positive role model for developing socialization skills among patients.
  • Coordinate and participate in group activities to encourage appropriate patient interaction.
