About The Position

The Behavioral Health Technician plays a critical role in supporting individuals with serious emotional disturbances (SED) and other mental health challenges by providing direct care and facilitating therapeutic activities. This position involves working closely with clinical teams to implement treatment plans, conduct clinical assessments, and assist in crisis intervention to ensure client safety and well-being. The technician will also be responsible for documenting clinical observations and progress accurately to support ongoing treatment and discharge planning. Through group facilitation and individual support, the role aims to promote positive behavioral changes and enhance clients' coping skills. Ultimately, the Behavioral Health Technician contributes to a multidisciplinary approach that fosters recovery and improves the quality of life for clients within various behavioral health settings across the United States.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a Behavioral Health Technician training program or relevant certification preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with serious emotional disturbances (SED) or in a mental health setting.
  • Basic knowledge of clinical documentation standards and mental health terminology.
  • Ability to effectively manage crisis situations and apply de-escalation techniques.
  • Strong communication skills to facilitate group discussions and interact with clients and clinical staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or higher in psychology, social work, or a related behavioral health field.
  • Certification in crisis intervention or mental health first aid.
  • Experience with discharge planning and care coordination.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Previous experience facilitating therapeutic groups or focus groups in clinical settings.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate focus groups and group discussions to engage clients in therapeutic activities and promote social skills development.
  • Conduct clinical assessments and assist in monitoring clients’ mental health status under the supervision of licensed professionals.
  • Provide crisis intervention and management to de-escalate situations and ensure client and staff safety.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including progress notes, incident reports, and discharge plans.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized treatment and discharge plans tailored to client needs.
