About The Position

The Behavioral Health Technician position is a critical role within the clinical department, primarily focused on supporting patients in a behavioral health facility. This is a 3rd shift position, requiring the technician to be actively involved in patient care and facility operations. The technician will report to the Supervisor of Clinical Support Staff and will not have any direct reports. The role involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of patients while adhering to established treatment policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Behavioral Science, CRC, or CRSS preferred.
  • One year experience in alcohol/drug treatment with direct patient contact preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate a basic understanding of the principles of chemical dependency recovery.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Ability to walk approximately one mile per eight-hour shift.
  • Ability to continuously sit for approximately three hours per eight-hour shift.
  • Ability to administer CPR and be certified.
  • Ability to see and hear constantly.
  • Emotional and physical capability to function under stressful situations.
  • Ability to stand continuously in increments of 45 minutes to one hour.
  • If recovering, two years of continuous verifiable abstinence.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in luggage and body searches.
  • Monitor and sometimes facilitate the Book Studies and Recovery meetings.
  • Be aware of patient locations at all times, circulating around the facility regularly and documenting hourly checks.
  • Ensure that all patients follow the Bradford Program Schedule and are on time for each assignment.
  • Supervise and sometimes facilitate patient activities as directed.
  • Ensure patients are in their rooms at the designated time in the evening.
  • Oversee med line to prevent diversion and de-escalate situations as they arise.
  • Assist patients to and from activities, medication times, and meals when unable to physically walk.
  • Assist the counselor as assigned and engage in appropriate documentation.
  • Responsible for adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Assist patients in overcoming their denial and resistance to treatment and completion of treatment goals.
  • Manage communities, redirect behavior, and document shift reports.
  • Attend staff training and programs as directed.
  • Assist nurses as directed by supervisor.
  • Drive patients to and from appointments, including patient outings, as directed.
  • Drive to purchase patient sundries and miscellaneous items, including nicotine products as directed.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance, presenting coherent and articulate speech.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness to perform the job safely.
  • Work cooperatively with co-workers, managers, clients, and prospective clients.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
