About The Position
The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) at THIRA Health plays a crucial role in supporting the treatment team and ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for patients. Under the guidance of licensed mental health professionals, the BHT actively participates in the treatment process by supervising patients and leading structured activities during breaks and mealtimes. This position is essential for facilitating effective engagement between patients and staff, thereby enhancing the overall therapeutic milieu. The BHT is responsible for observing and reporting any changes in patients' behaviors, physical symptoms, and mental health status to the clinical team. They serve as a point of contact for new patients, helping them acclimate to the program's structure, space, and rules. Participation in milieu activities is a key aspect of the role, where the BHT reinforces effective interactions among patients and provides redirection when necessary. Additionally, the BHT supports patients in practicing Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills and provides one-to-one supervision for those requiring increased observation. Meal and snack monitoring is another critical responsibility, where the BHT models and encourages patients to engage in eating according to dietary philosophy. They may also assist in conducting nutrition-based educational groups and observe dietary behaviors, reporting relevant progress to the clinical team. The BHT is tasked with ensuring patient safety during recreational and therapeutic outings, which includes safely transporting patients and staff. Maintaining infection control standards and effective communication across shifts and treatment teams is vital to the role, as is the documentation of patient rounds as determined by the clinical team.
