About The Position

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) - Psychiatric Emergency Services role involves providing a safe and therapeutic environment for psychiatric patients. Under close supervision, the BHT will deliver direct patient care, assist with admissions and discharges, and support the nursing staff in developing and implementing care plans. This position is crucial in ensuring the well-being of patients in a psychiatric setting, particularly those dealing with substance use disorders.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two years' experience in the field or related area preferred or an equivalent combination required.
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from AHA required.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity in dealing with the psychiatric patient population.
  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
  • Skill in assisting patients with daily activities and effective communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with psychiatric patients or in a healthcare setting.
  • Familiarity with substance use disorders and related treatment approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with admissions, discharges, transfers, and appropriate documentation.
  • Obtains vital signs on assigned adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Collects laboratory specimens on assigned patients as directed by RN staff.
  • Performs transportation responsibilities, including transporting patients and delivering medical items to requested departments.
  • Differentiates normal from abnormal findings and reports abnormal values or conditions to the RN.
  • Ensures confidentiality of patient information and provides care to patients in seclusion/restraint according to regulations and policies.
  • Promotes positive interpersonal relationships with fellow employees, physicians, patients, and visitors.
  • Adheres to the mission and values of Denver Health and complies with attendance guidelines.
